In its time, "The Birth of a Nation" was a masterpiece. Its racist undertones and revisionism are quite disturbing, but it is still worth watching for its historical influence. IMDb entry: http://imdb.com/title/tt0004972/

"Algiers" is a romantic mystery starring Charles Boyer and Hedy Lamarr. It's a 1938 Hollywood remake of the 1937 French film "Pepe le Moko" with Jean Gabin. Pepe (Boyer) is a notorious thief who has escaped from France and hides in the Casbah of Algiers. The French officials are after him, but he is protected by the local police. Boyer and Lamarr are attractive, and in one scene Boyer sings "C'est la vie" to his neighbours. See:...

All 67 Tex Avery-directed MGM cartoons.  A previous version of this compilation had issues with PAL speed and varying volumes. For this release, all the cartoons have been sourced from what is apparently "The Compleat Tex Avery" laser-disc.  Also, the ending card for "Slap Happy Lion" has been corrected, and the deleted scenes for "Garden Gopher" and "Droopy's Good Deed" have been reinstated without altering the original volume of the short....

Not only includes the original 167 cartoons, but also includes all his cartoons from more modern Looney Tunes short-form revivals. These cartoons have been checked to ensure the pitch does not change, nor the audio be seconds off, as opposed to a different Bugs Bunny collection on this site.  Please support Warner Bros. and watch Looney Tunes when they show up on Boomerang, or better yet, purchase the...

The chivalrous Cyrano sets up with Christian an innocent deception, with tragic results. Much cut from the play, but dialogue not rewritten.

In this first film version of William Shakespeare's classic pastoral comedy, Sir Laurence Olivier stars as Orlando while Elisabeth Bergner is Rosalind, his secret admirer who disguises herself as a boy in order to stay near to him. Nearly all of the actors involved had performed the work on stage previously, adding to the stellar overall performance. A particular highlight is Olivier's magnificent delivery of the famous "All the world's a stage..." monologue.

Sita is a goddess separated from her beloved Lord and husband Rama. Nina is an animator whose husband moves to India, then dumps her by email. Three hilarious shadow puppets narrate both ancient tragedy and modern comedy in this beautifully animated interpretation of the Indian epic Ramayana. Set to the 1920's jazz vocals of Annette Hanshaw, Sita Sings the Blues earns its tagline as "the Greatest Break-Up Story Ever Told."
